On September 28-29, the 25th Trilateral Environment Ministers’ Meeting was held in Jeju, Korea. Huang Runqiu, Minister of Ecology and Environment of the People’s Republic of China, Kim Junxie, Minister of Environment of the Republic of Korea, and Shintaro Ito, Minister of the Ministry of the Environment of Japan, respectively led delegations to attend the meeting to introduce their environmental policies and latest developments, and exchange views on regional and global hot environmental issues.
The meeting reviewed the implementation of the Trilateral Joint Action Plan on Environmental Cooperation (2021-2025), adopted the priority areas of cooperation in the new Joint Action Plan, and jointly signed the Joint Communiqué of the 25th Trilateral Environment Ministers’ Meeting. Ren Feng, President of Dalian Hydrogen Energy Industry Development Promotion Association and Chairman of Weiyuan Technology (Dalian) Co., Ltd., was honored to attend.
In his keynote speech at the opening ceremony, Huang Runqiu stressed that 2024 marks the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the China-Japan-ROK cooperation mechanism, and that the consensus reached at the 9th Trilateral Summit in May this year has pointed out the direction and injected impetus into the deepening of environmental cooperation among the three countries.
The ROK side gave a detailed introduction to its policies and measures in response to climate change, circular economy, air pollution prevention and control, and natural ecological protection, while the Japanese side also elaborated on its progress and measures in addressing climate change, biodiversity conservation, circular economy, marine garbage control, and air pollution prevention and control.
Ren Feng presented China’s development trend in the field of hydrogen energy at the conference. He focused on the huge potential of China’s hydrogen energy development, and elaborated on the important position and broad application prospects of hydrogen energy as a clean energy source in the future energy structure.
At the same time, Ren Feng also introduced the hydrogen energy industry in Dalian in detail, including Dalian’s advantages and achievements in the layout of the hydrogen energy industry, technology research and development, and industrial chain construction. In addition, he also gave a comprehensive introduction to the company’s development history, core technology, product characteristics and role in promoting the development of the hydrogen energy industry, so that the participants have a deeper understanding of the development of China’s hydrogen energy industry, and also provide a useful reference and opportunity for cooperation and exchanges between the three countries in the field of hydrogen energy and other clean energy.
Before the meeting, Huang Runqiu held bilateral talks with Kim Jun-sub and Shintaro Ito respectively between China and South Korea and China and Japan. Huang Runqiu said that China and South Korea have always maintained good cooperative relations in the field of ecology and environment, and are willing to continue to deepen and expand cooperation in the field of environment on the existing basis and promote regional green development. During the meeting with Shintaro Ito, Huang Runqiu said that China is willing to work with Japan to promote China-Japan environmental cooperation that meets the requirements of the new era, strengthen exchanges and cooperation in the fields of climate change, biodiversity conservation, and environmental policy dialogue, and stressed the hope that Japan will fully cooperate with the establishment and implementation of a long-term and effective international monitoring arrangement for nuclear contaminated water in Fukushima as soon as possible.
The Trilateral Environment Ministers’ Meeting began in 1999 with the aim of implementing the consensus reached at the Trilateral Leaders’ Meeting, exploring and resolving common regional environmental problems, and promoting sustainable development in the region. The meeting was held by the three countries on a rotational basis.
